Watch as we do an in-depth study presentation of this stunning 1770s Striped Brocaded Green and Pink Silk Robe À La Française and Petticoat. Our amazing expert Janea Whitacre will walk us through the fabric, style, and construction details of this gown.  You will be able to see all of the tiny details as we discuss them.  Questions will be answered during the recorded session. The Renaissance Fabrics Study Collection is bringing a museum-style study experience right to you! The Renaissance Fabrics Study Collection is a museum-like collection, but it’s sole purpose is to allow anyone to study historic fashion.  Many of our items have open areas that allow us to see “how they did it”. The collection features items from the 17th century through the 1920’s.  We are a federally recognized 501(c)3.  All class fees will be used to support The Collection.   About the Instructor:  Janea Whitacre   Years ago, Janea studied Art History.  Her first job after college was in Historic Trades at the Millinery Shop at the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation. The rest is history. She has focused her career on rediscovering the 18th century trades of Millinery and Mantua-making through extensive study of surviving clothing combined with the application of her knowledge through sewing and teaching.  Along the way she has also served on the regional and national boards of the Costume Society of America, made reproductions for a number of museums and hand sewn miles of wonderful fabrics into clothing for friends and colleagues. Just a Few of Janea’s Contributions: Professional Leadership: She has served on both regional and national boards for the Costume Society of America. Museum Reproductions: Whitacre has produced highly accurate clothing reproductions for various museums and research institutions. Educational Outreach: She frequently speaks at symposia, such as the William & Mary National Institute of American History & Democracy (NIAHD) collaborations, to discuss the economic and political roles of 18th-century female-owned businesses.
